Electronic drumming has never been more affordable! Yamaha has done it with the DTXPLORER set, a complete 5-piece electronic drum set.
You'll receive a drum stand that accomodates the included five TP65 rubber, velocity sensitive pads and two cymbal pads. Mount the DTXPL trigger module on the stand, use the included cable set to connect everything together, and you're ready to go.
How does it sound? Superb, and you've got 32 kits and 214 voices to choose from. Plus, there is space for 10 user designed kits, so you can create your own favorite combinations. Of course, the DTXPLORER does not include speakers, so you'll need to add a set of headphones or amplifier to your set in order to listen. See our suggestions below for a few ideas.
But there's more...a built-in metronome and "Groove Check" function will keep you on the beat. Plus, MIDI connections make it possible to connect the kit to a PC or Mac and interface with recording software. You can't go wrong with the DTXPLORER.
The Advantages of the DTXPLORER (and all electronic sets). It all starts when you see the flexibility. Tired of setting up an acoustic set complete with microphones, mic stands, and just dealing with the pure bulk of an acoustic kit? Most folks are, and the DTXPLORER solves those problems. The pads are light-weight, the sounds are extremely realistic, and there are no mics...just a simple stereo output. Speaking of sounds, wish you had a conga set off to your side? What about a synth drum? With DTX, it's a matter of clicking a button. As a drummer, you've never had so much control, and you've never been more valuable to a musical project before.
Then, there's practicing. Maybe you live in a college apartment. Or maybe you're all grown up now, with kids sleeping two rooms away from you. Your acoustic set might as well be left in the case. They're just too darned loud! With DTX, you can still set up, hit them as hard as you want, and be the only one listening through stereo headphones. Sure the pads still have some residual noise, but it's minimal. Bottom line: you don't have to hold back, and you'll be silent. Just don't start practicing your vocals. With the AUX input, plug a CD player or your iPod into the module, and play along to your favorite songs.
The applications are endless. Replace your acoustic drum set, or mix some electronic drums in with your acoustic set. Use the DTX set for practicing at home. Churches and bands love electronic kits because you can actually have some control over the volume...the drummer can hit like there's no tomorrow, but the volume can remain tolerable in those settings that require quieter levels. Record with DTX...no more mics or isolation booths. No matter how you use a DTX kit, you'll wonder how you got along without them.
