MOTU 896 Firewire Audio Interface w/Microphone Preamps What do you get when you combine top quality microphone preamps and instrument line inputs with a FireWire based audio interface? The MOTU 896! This super setup is the big brother to the MOTU 828. You get all of the functionality and features the 828 gives you, but the 896 keeps on giving. Each of the eight analog inputs on the 896 are balanced/unbalanced combo TRS, XLR, Neutrik connectors, and all of the eight analog outs are balanced XLR. Yes, we're talking "Pro" here and continuing with the Pro-eese I'll tell you about the 8 pre-amps with switchable 48-volt phantom power and 8 trims on the front panel. Further more you get ADAT optical I/O, AES/EBU in and out, not S/PDIF, (that just wouldn't suit your pro tastes) and you get an extra FireWire port to connect additional 896's or 828's. Keeping all of your gear marching to the same drum is the function of the 896's word clock I/O and ADAT sync in. The 896 can slave to word clock in half or double speed, and can send at half speed when running at 88.2 or 96 kHz. Your gear will thank you for this when they're not looking ahead or behind for the 896! This wonder box takes up just two rack spaces, which is enough room for its excellent front panel meters. The first band of eight multi-segment meters show you analog input while the second can show you analog out, ADAT in, or ADAT out. Other helpful lights show you main out level, AES/EBU I/O levels and system clock status. As with the 828, the 896 comes with the powerful AudioDesk program for tracking/editing/and mixing and it comes with a low price too. (Is "low price" in Pro-eese? It is now!)
