Explore new ways to play

Combining traditional craftsmanship with modern technology, Expressive E Osmose is the result of more than 10 years of research and development as well as feedback from world-class artists. Osmose introduces new physical gestures, allowing musicians to interact with sounds and produce music. It does this while not only respecting, but also enhancing the player's existing keyboard skills. Every note can be articulated independently with unique expressive possibilities.

EaganMatrix sound engine

Offering new levels of expressivity required a seamless interaction between Osmose's unique keybed mechanism and its sound engine. Logically, Expressive E has partnered with Haken Audio to integrate its powerful EaganMatrix sound engine with Osmose. Its modular sound engine combines many types of digital synthesis including physical modeling, FM and more, making it a workflow-oriented soundbox. Osmose ships with more than 500 presets, each of which has been manually customized with efficient macros that open new realms of sound exploration.

A playful playing experience

All the internal sounds in Osmose's large library are tailor-made to take advantage of its unique keybed. Osmose's unique sound identity is a combination of highly detailed acoustic, electronic and hybrid sounds that will easily add nuances and variations to any music genre. These sounds were carefully crafted to react to a player's slightest movements and make use of the keys' three-dimensional sensitivity in a unique way to create effects such as strummed notes, vibrato, legato, layered dynamics and much more. As a result, discovering and controlling Osmose's sounds is refreshing and fun!

Built to empower external synths

On top of being a traditional MIDI keyboard controller, Osmose can also interface with computers and other instruments as an MPE MIDI controller. It also offers polyphonic aftertouch support, a multichannel MIDI mode and global pitch bend. All of these changes can be made directly from the Osmose interface with no need for a computer.

UI/UX design

Osmose's custom, in-house operating system facilitates sound creation: no endless menu browsing, no constant 'shift button' operating. Expressive E boiled down the feature set to its quintessence and added to the mix a large color screen, 500 macro-loaded presets and efficient categorization. The sound browser offers various filters and sub-filters based on both sound types and colors so you can find the sounds in your head quickly.

Simple to tweak

With Osmose it's easy to customize the timbres, textures and effects of all presets. Give macro controls a simple twist to tweak multiple pre-mapped parameters at once. Each of the 500 included presets is equipped with macro controls to generate deep, satisfying changes without effort.

A.K.A. Augmented Keyboard Action

Developed by Expressive E, Augmented Keyboard Action (A.K.A.) is the technology inside every key of Osmose; it offers a seamless connection between every gesture played by the musician and the resulting sound. This means that despite being an electronic synthesizer, Osmose feels more like an acoustic instrument to play. Press, bend, shake, strum and more to create sounds that are truly yours.

3-axis motion for every key

  • Extended polyphonic pressure: sound is produced as soon as you brush the keys with an incredible level of nuance and dynamics.
  • High-resolution polyphonic aftertouch: past a certain pressure threshold, a new sound variation is triggered with a tremendous level of control and dynamics.
  • Polyphonic pitch control: add vibrato to notes and bend them by intuitively shifting keys left and right. Each key's pitch variations can be independent.

Custom sensitivity

Whether you want full expressivity or a classic piano feel, Osmose adapts to you by offering custom sensitivity curves for each gesture.

Playing options

Osmose's MPE arpeggiator has the classic parameters you would expect, but also gesture-triggered modulation on every note. Osmose also features 'press glide,' which allows you to dynamically control glide time between notes.

Design and build quality

Proudly designed in France, Osmose boasts a stealth black casing and signature key stems that will both please crowds and stand the test of time. Made out of rugged materials and assembled in a solid glueless design, Osmose is a road- and studio-ready instrument.
